We’re right in the middle of the 2018 College World Series. It’s one of my favorite times of the year. I don’t watch a ton of regular season college ball unless I’m catching it live, but from the Regionals onward it’s must watch TV for me.
A lot of questions have been raised about increasing the popularity of the College World Series, and college baseball as a whole. This season something like 80+ regular season games were shown on ESPN’s networks. With the rise of streaming live sports, we should only see that number rise in coming seasons.
MLB just announced a huge move for raising awareness of the College World Series. The Royals and Tigers will play a regular season game in Omaha, the home of TD Ameritrade Park, where the CWS is played. It’s not the most exciting match up, but Kansas City and Detroit being somewhat close in proximity to Omaha makes it an understandable choice.
We’ve seen MLB schedule a game in Williamsport, PA the week of the Little League World Series, and they’ll do the same the week of the College World Series. Should be cool to watch, and a great move for MLB and the NCAA.
