Last night I went to the Trenton Thunder vs. Portland Sea Dogs game to see Yoan Moncada and Andrew Benintendi play before they make it to the big leagues. One day I’ll be able to tell my grandkids that I saw these guys close up before they became superstars. I ended up seeing a pretty wild finish to the game, too.
The Thunder came into the bottom of the ninth trailing 9-5, and a loss at the hands of the Sea Dogs seemed inevitable. After rallying and scoring a run to make the game 9-6, Mark Payton hit a pinch-hit, game-tying, three run yack over the right field fence that likely rolled into the Delaware River.
Side note, Arm And Hammer Park is an gorgeous ballpark. Minor League baseball is awesome.
With the game tied 9-9, Tyler Wade came up and drove the ball over the centerfielder’s head and barreled his way around the bases to walk his team off with an inside the parker. Wild, wild stuff. Check out the entire bottom of the ninth rally below.
