On Saturday, the Oakland A’s took a hit to the loss column in a 4-0 beating handed to them by the Cubs. The game itself was hardly at the center of attention however. Not only did the Cubs sport throwback baby blue uniforms while the A’s were rocking the 1981 green and gold get-up, but the entire broadcast was displayed as if it were 1981. As the images above and below display, the graphics, statistics and even the attire of Ray Fosse and Glen Kuiper looked like they came straight out of a time machine from the 80’s.
Whether you be a Cubs or A’s fan, a general baseball fan, or simply even a channel surfer who happened to stumble on this broadcast, you were sure to find entertainment as you watched. I myself was caught wondering if that was Rick Langford or Sonny Gray on the mound for the A’s. The broadcast even went as far as displaying the traditional “CSN Sports” as the broadcasting channel, giving flashbacks to the 1981 Athletics and their fans. Talk about going all out!
Regardless of the outcome of the game, the Athletics broadcast team and Major League Baseball definitely entertained fans today with the one of a kind broadcast. May we see this be a trend for future broadcasts to be themed in one way or another? We can only hope so.
