Padres Melvin Upton robbed JJ Hardy of what would have been a two run home run last night in San Diego.
Melvin Upton, formerly known as BJ, isn’t a guy really well known for his defense. Actually, he’s not really known for much anymore. Hitting .261/.312/.424 on the year, he also comes with average defensive metrics in the outfield. But on Tuesday night in San Diego, he brought back a home run off the bat of JJ Hardy, and threw a stripe to first base to double up Mark Trumbo.
The odds a player has an opportunity to rob a home run are miniscule. The odds the player actually executes the robbed home run are even smaller. An impressive feat no matter who you are.
