In the NCAA regional final game between LSU and Rice, LSU’s pitcher Austin Bain took a line drive to the nose.
This one hurt. This is every pitcher’s worst fear. Typically the ball off the bat comes off much faster than the ball comes out of a pitcher’s hand. It’s not uncommon to see a ball come off the bat at 110 mph. At that kind of speed, there’s absolutely no time to react or get your glove up.

Rice won tonight’s game, so LSU and Rice will face off again tomorrow in a winner-take-all NCAA Regional final game. Winner will head to Super Regionals. Hopefully a quick recovery for Austin Bain and we can see him back in supers (pending an LSU W).
