The 2017 Major League Baseball season is underway as teams settle in begin their journeys for the 2017 season and what comes with that is fan interaction. Fans come in all different shapes and sizes and make fanbases of not just baseball, but every sport, so great. With that may come more casual fans, but they still might be fans of the game’s culture and environment and the off the field activities that are gaining steam across Major League Baseball. With that, here are some of the best promotions that could get even more fans to the ballpark in 2017.
Chicago White Sox, May 13th, Hawk Harrelson talking alarm clock
Hawk Harrelson is as interesting of a baseball persona as you’ll get. He may not be as polished as a Vin Scully, and maybe not as popular, but he is memorable. From his “Yes!” chant to “You can put it on the board!, “The Hawk” is enough of a baseball personality to snag this item.
Baltimore Orioles, August 19th, Orioles 25th Anniversary Replica Ballpark
I’m fortunate enough to have taken a trip to Camden Yards to take in the ballpark in Baltimore and even though I’m a stadium nerd, The Ballpark at Camden Yards is a memorable enough location for any baseball fan to snag any memorabilia there is from it.
LA Dodgers, Vin Scully Commemorative Microphone, May 5th
Holy crap this is cool. One of the greatest sports broadcasters of all time gets a giveaway which of course is a microphone. Sure this isn’t his actual microphone, but the Ring of Honor ceremony printed on it also? Wow what an item. The only thing that could make this better is if it had Scully talking in his smooth and stylish dialogue.
Tampa Bay, April 8th, Kevin Kiermaier Gold Glove
Kevin Kiermaier is still far from a household name across the country, but for arguably the game’s best defensive player a bubblehead loaded with his gold gloves is pretty sweet highlighting one of the game’s best on the defensive side of the ball.
New York Mets, July 22nd, Syndergaard Thor Bobblehead
In some way shape of form, we knew this was probably coming eventually, but to get Marvel’s stamp on it also? Sick! The God of lighting known as Thor perked with Noah Syndergaard is a brilliant marketing tool matching two different fan bases. Side note, Syndergaard will cameo in Season 7 of Game of Thrones, more to come on that later.
Cleveland Indians AL Champs Replica Trophy, May 22nd
Sure I’m a biased Indians fan, but tell me replica trophies in any sport aren’t cool. The historic run may not have ended how the Tribe faithful wanted, but you better believe this will be a popular item in trophy cases all across Northeast Ohio.
Chicago Cubs World Series Trophy Replica. May 15th
This one goes without saying, the World Series trophy for a franchise like the Cubs after such a storied past. I think this is pretty obvious, but this will be a highly priced item all over the internet.
Oakland A’S Game of Thrones Night, June 30th
Do I think Game of Thrones and Major League Baseball are a weird combination for a marketing team up? Yeah, a little bit, but will I complain? Absolutely not. The A’s get the highly proclaimed HBO show for what will probably be a full night of festivities in Oakland. If you know don’t think this could be a hit, then you clearly know nothing (Jon Snow.)
Seattle Mariners Ken Griffey Jr. Replica Statue, April 14th
Pick nearly any adjective to describe the man known as “The Kid” and it will likely add up. Statues are not something that should be given to players easily, but Griffey checks off every box by a landslide. I think the only thing that could make this better is if the statue could mimic what I think is the greatest swing ever that the smooth hitting Griffey once had.
